Wild Bird Seed Treats

Now that spring has finally sprung in Wisconsin (fingers crossed), I would like to share a fun little project that is truly for the birds. Wild Bird Seed Treats!
Supplies
- Birdseed (any brand you prefer)
- Cookie Cutters or Molds
- Gelatin (I prefer KNOX Gelatin)
- Medium Sauce Pan
- Wooden Spoon
- Twine
- Water
- Wax Paper
Instructions
- Prepare the gelatin by mixing ¼ cup of water and one packet of gelatin in a saucepan.
- Bring to a slow boil while stirring continuously until gelatin dissolves.
- Remove from heat and let cool for a minute.
- Once cooled slowly add birdseed to the gelatin until there is no liquid in the bottom of the pan, mixing well.
- On a large sheet of wax paper, lay your cookie cutters out (no need to use wax paper if using a mold).
- Press the birdseed mixture into the cookie cutters, filling half way. Place a piece of twine in the center of the birdseed (I make a knot so the twine stays is place).
- Once the twine is in place cover the twine with more birdseed, filling to the top of the cookie cutter.
- Be sure to leave a long enough piece of twine exposed for hanging.
- Let dry for 24 hours, turning a few times so they dry evenly.
- Gently remove the ornament from the cookie cutters.
- Hang outside in your trees and watch your feathered friends enjoy them!
